VLOG FINISHED!!! *Throws party*

I finished editing the horror conventions vlog today!!! :D As I am typing this, the vlog is exporting and uploading to YouTube. :) So glad I've got it done - Lester and I are very proud of it and personally, I think it looks quite good for a first attempt at this style of editing.

If we'd had more time, there are a few improvements we could've made to improve audience retention and the overall quality of the vlog, one of the main things being a "Dom touching his hair" counter (because he was always fiddling with his hair, beard or neck). XD

Still, all things said and done, I'm proud of it and I hope it's viewed as high quality by our teachers and examiners. :)

Horror Conventions Vlog Editing D:

This editing is literally taking HOURS. D: So far, I've done about 4.5 hours. :/ But it'll be worth it in the end, and it's good practice for if I ever want to edit vlogs in the future. I've been trying to apply editing techniques that vlog professionals like danisnotonfire and AmazingPhil use. I suppose all the time I spend procrastinating on YouTube is teaching me something. XD

Lester and I have been taking turns, with Dom critiquing it as we go along. We'll have it finished by the end of tomorrow, which is good news as everything has to be finished by Monday. :O All I have to do then is finish my written analyses. ^-^

I'm nearly there. :)

Casting News :O

So as you know (if you've read our script/storyboard), we have 3 title roles - the Scientist, the Student and the Friend. After some deliberation between us, we decided to cast Dom as the Scientist, Lester as the Student and myself as the Friend, even though we tried out some other people for the roles. This is for three main reasons:

1. When Lester and I were creating the storyboards, we partially modelled the characters on our group members as it gave us a starting point for the characters' personalities, which we then developed.

2. None of the people we auditioned gave us the right vibes for the characters (this is a reflection of our opinions, not our auditionees' ability to act).

3. Dom studies drama, so he has an interest in acting and can act well, and Lester and I both want to write and act comedy sketches, short dramas etc. in the future.

Additionally, we are all available for filming at the right time without having to arrange it around other people's lessons etc. and all three of us are never in the shot at the same time, therefore there will always be at least one person to operate the camera.

Thank you to the people we auditioned and I hope you're not too offended that we didn't pick you. :P

You can expect lots of (hopefully) funny behind the scenes videos of our filming adventure, including a short clip of the read through coming your way soon. :)

Animatic is *finally* done! :D

The animatic took me a grand total of 8 hours. D: BUT I'm very proud of what I've created. :D

Suppose it's worth it really. :P

Another Analysis and an Animatic

Firstly, I'm so proud of my alliteration in the title. ;)

Secondly, we've been set another essay analysis, this time analysing sound in trailers. I've chosen to analyse the trailer for 'Jessabelle' for this essay. Should be fun. :)

Finally, we have been told to create an animatic as a way of presenting our storyboards creatively. For those who don't know, an animatic is basically an animated storyboard, which is good for audience retention and showing off media skills. We have planned that Dom will do most of the filming with Lester's assistance and I will edit with Lester's assistance.

Updates on it will follow shortly. :)

Summer Update B)

It's been a loooooonnnnnnggggg summer holiday. Over the summer, I pretty much completed my poster analysis and Lester and I met up and completed the storyboards. It was difficult as we were both very busy but we managed to free up some time to do it. We still haven't yet completed our 'conventions of the horror genre' podcast but we aim to complete it soon.

We have been set an essay analysing shots, lighting and colour in a different horror trailer. I've chosen to analyse the trailer for 'As Above, So Below' as I think that will prove interesting to dissect. ^-^

Updates to follow shortly. :)

Update - Storyboarding

Today, we started storyboarding our horror trailers. I am in charge of the storyboards and will do all the annotating. Lester will do all the drawing and Dom will analyse what we've done and suggest improvements as we go along. We will all be contributing ideas the whole way through.

I like storyboarding, so I couldn't wait to get started on it. ^-^

Updates to follow shortly. :)

We have now begun using Todorov to plan our storyline for our horror film that we will make our trailer for. You can see my Todorov narrative by clicking on the appropriately named "Main Task - Todorov Narrative" page above. :)

A2 coursework start! :)

So we have officially started our A2 media course now! Yay! :)

The genre we're focusing on this year is horror, which I am both excited and apprehensive for. Apprehensive because horror films bore me very quickly and I don't want to lose focus but excited because it's a new genre and it will *hopefully* be fun to explore and dissect.

We have started analysing trailers for horror films and we are just about to start analysing magazine covers.

Updates to follow shortly. :)
